Position: Patent Attorney

Todd T. Taylor was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 23, 1961.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tri-State University (ninth percentile) and thereafter worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as an engineer for approximately two years.  While employed as an engineer, his responsibilities included the development and design of weapon systems for U.S. Special Forces, the design of electronic packaging assemblies and systems for onboard U.S. naval ship computers, and chairman of an I.E.E.E. working group on the next generation computer standards.  Todd obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University at Indianapolis, Indiana (twenty-first percentile).

 

Areas of Practice:

Todd has a BS in mechanical engineering and specializes in patent matters relating to mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies. He grew up on a farm, and he still has a very strong background in agricultural technologies. With his previous work designing weapons for US Special Forces, he also has a very strong background in weapons design technologies. His elective classes at the undergraduate level were focused on internal combustion (IC) engines, and he has always provided IP legal services in the area of IC engines. He also advises clients on matters relating to trademarks and copyrights.

Raymond W. Campbell was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on May 5, 1952. He obtained Bachelor degrees (Magna cum Laude) in chemistry and political science (with Departmental Distinction) from Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. Ray obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (cum Laude) from Notre Dame University. He was in private practice for two years in South Bend, Indiana, then worked as an in-house Patent Attorney for The Trane Company, where his technical responsibilities included industrial heat exchangers and heat pumps. For sixteen years, Ray was in the Patent Department of Beloit Corporation (a worldwide supplier of equipment for the pulp and paper industry), Division of Harnischfeger Industries, serving first as Assistant Patent Counsel, then Patent Counsel and finally as Chief Patent Counsel. Ray was a regularly scheduled guest lecturer on Intellectual Property Law in the Blackhawk Vocational School Legal Secretary Program.

Marla S. Brinkman was born in Huntington, Indiana on June 20, 1977.  Marla obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Environmental Science in May of 1999 from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.  Marla obtained her Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in May of 2004.  From 2004 through 2007, Marla was in private practice in Huntington, Indiana.

Gary M. Gron was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, in 1960 from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland. Gary also earned his J.D. degree in 1965 from Cleveland-Marshall Law School. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Gron completed a 37-year career in corporate patent law with GE, Avco Corporation, and 29 years managing the Cummins Inc. patent program. Areas of Technical Expertise are automotive technology, turbomachinery, engine design, filter design, filtration technology, machining methods, machinery, packaging, container closures, injection molding, plastic parts technology, farm machinery.  Mr. Gron is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, is a registered professional engineer in the state of Ohio, and is a member of the Indiana bar and Ohio bar.

Gary has a BS in mechanical engineering and specializes in patent matters relating to mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies. Gary was Chief Patent Counsel for Cummins Engines (a Fortune 500 company) for more than 2 decades, where he had a particular emphasis in the internal combustion (IC) engine technologies. Gary’s advice is often sought by our inhouse corporate clients on dealing with and negotiating within the corporate environment. Prior to his Chief Patent Counsel position, Gary was an inhouse patent attorney with Avco-New Idea (farm equipment).  He also has a very strong background in agricultural technologies.

Kelly R. Bailey was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 30, 1969.  While attending the University of Miami and majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Kelly participated in the U.S. Army ROTC program, graduating from both U.S. Army Airborne School and Air Assault School and receiving recognition as a Distinguished Military Graduate.  After graduating from Washington University School of Law in 1994, Kelly practiced law in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) from 1995 to 2000.  After serving as a legal assistance attorney, he spent two years as a trial prosecutor at Fort Knox, Kentucky and then two years as an appellate prosecutor in Washington, D.C., handling major criminal prosecutions at both levels.  Before joining the firm in 2006, Kelly spent over five years in a firm in St. Louis handling general litigation matters including business litigation and trademark infringement.

Kelly has a BS in mechanical engineering and specializes in patent matters relating to mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies. For several years after law school, Kelly was a JAG attorney with the US military and prosecuted many criminal cases. His extensive litigation experience as a JAG attorney provided him with the opportunity to brief a criminal case before the US Supreme Court.

Roger M. Rickert was born in Huntington, Indiana on August 4, 1936.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and thereafter worked for five years in the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner in the digital data processing arts.  While a Patent Examiner, he attended American University and earned his J.D. degree.  He then obtained a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from Purdue University and became registered as a Professional Engineer in Indiana (Reg No. PE60015100).  He has served as an associate faculty member in the Mathematics Department at the Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne Campus since 1978.  He has been in private practice as a Patent and Trademark Lawyer in Fort Wayne Indiana since 1968.

Max W. Garwood was born in Huntington, Indiana. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1973, and a Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue in 1975, and thereafter worked for the Department of Defense as an Electronics Engineer for over twenty years. His employment with the DoD involved him in the design approval and testing of avionics, navigational and terminal guidance systems, communications, and control systems. While he was employed with DoD, he commercially designed software for production control and test systems; and he served as an adjunct faculty member, teaching calculus, physics, electronics and drafting. Max obtained his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University at Indianapolis, Indiana.

Areas of Practice:

Max has a MS in electrical engineering and specializes in patent matters relating to electrical, electronics and software technologies. He still lives on a farm that has been in his family for 3 generations, and has a very strong background in agricultural technologies. Max worked for the US Military in the area of guidance systems at the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; therefore, has a very strong background in any of the electronics arts. Max also previously owned and managed his own software company prior to law school and has a very strong background in the software arts. He also advises clients on matters relating to trademarks and copyrights.

Joseph S. Edelstein was born in Alton, Illinois on July 17, 1986. As a technician, his responsibilities included diagnosing and repairing medical equipment failure. Joseph obtained his law degree from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana. While attending law school, Joseph worked for Cook Medical’s in-house patent department and the Indiana University’s technology transfer office.
